Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park

There is a place in the United States in the state of Montana on the border with Canada, which is ideal for lovers of wild nature and beautiful landscapes. The sky here is unbelievably clear, the snow is perfectly white, the waters are all shades of green, the mountain lines are fantastically beautiful, and the huge mirrors reflect more than that on the water surface. Most importantly, this is one of the ten places where you can see glaciers. We are talking about Glacier National Park, which is spread across the northern edge of the Rocky Mountains.

The neighboring airports of Missoula (190 km) and Kalispell (40 km) receive flights from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix and other US cities. It is possible to get from here to the park without any problems by shuttle bus or bus. From Canada (the city of Calgary) it takes only 4.5 hours to drive to the station. Right next to the park there is a small town called Gutavuc, which can be reached from Juneau by air or by water. Those who come to the park in their own car will have to pay 25 USD for an entry permit, valid for 7 days. To get to the park on your own (that is, by public transport) you will also have to pay 12 USD per person (for the same 7 days). There are season tickets in Gleysher that are valid for a year and allow you to visit the park for an unlimited time. Its value is 30 USD. In addition, Glacier can be visited with The National Park Pass, which includes all US parking, costs 80 USD per year. Climate of Glacier Park If we talk about the current situation, it is quite warm here (on average from – 2 °C to 4 °C), and the summer is quite cool, the average temperature is around 12 … 15 °С. It is much cooler in the mountains than in the lowlands. The driest months are April, May and June. In July and October, the amount of precipitation is the highest in a year.

Nature and animal life of the park The area of the park is almost 4000 square meters. km, it is rich in mountain ridges, numerous large and small lakes, waterfalls, colorful meadows, glaciers that formed many centuries ago. The park is inhabited by a large number of animals and birds, and people first survived in this place about 10,000 years ago, they were Indian tribes. The first Europeans arrived here at the beginning of the 19th century as part of the Luic and Clark expedition, and they discovered Indians here. In 1807, Fort Manuel was built, which was intended for trade with the Indians. Later, gold was found in the vicinity, due to which the almost deserted territory was transformed into a lively and densely populated temple. Fortunately, with the efforts of enthusiasts, it was possible to protect the unique miracle from the fate of the golden vein and the forces of the morning industry. In 1910, the region received the status of a national park, and construction work began here. Tourist routes of the Glacier Park The territory of the park was quickly equipped with the necessary infrastructure for tourism, and every year there are more than 300 buildings that are included in the National Register of Historic Places icts From the end of May to July, the official tourist season lasts in the Glacier Park, and during these months thousands of tourists come everywhere. In other months, only limited services are possible. The park has become an area of heightened interest for ecotourism enthusiasts: there are thirty glaciers in the Glacier, which may literally disappear from the face of the earth in the near future – melt away climate change. Today there are about 30 glaciers in the park, while in the 19th century there were five times more. Under the influence of the most impressive of them, the landscapes of the city were formed and changed year by year. According to scientists, the melting of glaciers is a natural and irreversible process, it is impossible to stop it.

Lodges, camps and hotels in Glacier There are, of course, hotels among several small tourist facilities in Glacier Park. They are built in picturesque places, as a rule, on the banks of reservoirs, and are part of tourist complexes that include cafes, restaurants, recreation areas, and shops. In 1914, the Lake McDonald Lodge hotel opened its doors for guests in the western part of the park. The name of the hotel was dictated by the name of the largest lake in the park, on the shore of which it was built. The building complex in the style of a Swiss chalet fits perfectly into the landscape. In the main building (which is included in the list of the National Historic Monuments of America) you will find the front of the hotel – an open space surrounded by three floors of balconies, from which you can enter rooms Interiors and facilities in the hotel are maintained in a good overall style, rooms with all amenities. The Many Glacier hotel, the largest in the park, is located on the western shore of Swift Current Lake. The hotel enjoys an exceptional reputation, as its accommodation capacity is considered the best. This is a building complex that includes rooms, open verandas, a restaurant with live music, shops, cafes, bars. The hotel rooms are decorated with no frills, but very comfortable. However, there is little time spent in the room: hiking, horseback riding, and water walks, trips around the park on a red excursion bus, and even a stay on one of the trails that are open beautiful views, attract many more tourists.
