What are the types of tourism?

Active tourism
Many people associate active recreation and tourism with mountain climbing, hiking and various moving sports. But this is not entirely true. You should not be afraid of the phrase “active recreation”, because it is not only diving and mountaineering, but also essentially any type of tourism, in which you do not lie all day by the pool.

Recreational tourism
This is tourism, which is the complete opposite of business travel. The purpose of recreational tourism is rest and recharging, treatment, sports, cultural education. As a rule, recreational rest is characterized by a longer stay in the same location.

Cultural tourism
This is the most popular type of tourism. The purpose of such trips is to visit tourist places, sights, and get to know other cultures, lifestyles, and customs.

Sports and extreme tourism
The goal of sports tourism is to practice sports, those types or in those locations that are not available at the traveler’s place of residence.

Automobile tourism (car tourism)
A popular type of tourism in its practicality, when travelers travel independently by car or gather in groups. Most often, the services of agents and travel agencies are not used.

Bicycle tourism
Active recreation, for movement during which a bicycle is used. Depending on the goals and style of the trip, the format of rest may change. It can be both a walk and a long journey. A bicycle can be used as a means of transport, or as the purpose of a trip. For bicycle tourists, special routes and tracks are laid, or a travel plan is drawn up through the picturesque area.

Equestrian tourism
Similarly to cycling, horse-riding tourism follows special routes. Most often, these are national parks or nature reserves. It is especially popular among eco-tourism lovers due to the possibility not to use cars and motorcycles for transportation, as well as to be closer to nature.

Ski tourism
It involves the passage of ski tracks and routes during the trip. There are many ski resorts and specially equipped places. When choosing such a vacation destination, do not forget that your travel insurance should include coverage for injuries resulting from active recreation.

Pilgrimage tourism
This is a type of tourism, the purpose of which is to visit religious places and monuments, cities that are important for believers of one or another religion.

Adventure tourism
These are trips on unusual tours, for example, to exotic places. It can also be expeditions, rafting on rivers or hikes in jungles and reservations, minimally changed by the human factor.

Water tourism
During such trips it is meant recreation with the use of water transport, for example, kayaks, boats, yachts, or water sports. Water transport can be rented or personal.

Rural tourism
This is a type of ecological tourism, during which accommodation and leisure activities of tourists are arranged in rural areas, away from cities and industrial buildings. A trip can involve not only staying in a village, for example, but also observing or participating in agricultural work. Also, locations can be specially arranged for rural tourism. The purpose of rural tourism is a break from the city, study and immersion in country life and getting closer to nature.

Shopping tourism
This type of tourism refers to trips to buy clothes or other things. The destination of the trip can be both the capitals of world fashion, for example, Milan or Paris, and large outlets, which are usually located near various tourist cities.

Passive tourism
Passive recreation is slower, measured tourism, without frequent changes of locations and visits to a large number of sights. The purpose of such trips can be a purposeful visit to 1-2 tourist places, as well as treatment, business trip, study and even sports. But sports passive tourism does not involve participation, but observation of competitions or games. There is also the option of traveling abroad for a long time in order to live the life of local people and immerse yourself in their daily routine.

Medical tourism
Medical tourism is a trip aimed at improving health or getting rid of a disease. It can be a trip to a sanatorium or hospital, a sea resort, mud treatment, or a trip to a specific clinic for treatment or surgery.
